A ventral hernia occurs when part of the intestine or abdominal tissue pushes through a weak spot in the abdominal wall, often causing a noticeable bulge in the midsection. These hernias can develop gradually or appear suddenly due to strain or heavy lifting. Unlike umbilical hernias, ventral hernias can occur anywhere along the abdomen and are commonly seen in areas weakened by previous surgery or injury.
